Special Issue Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic created a chaos in countries that had no health disaster preparedness programs in place including health promotion programs to be implemented during crisis. Federal, State, local government had to deal with the crisis with existing resources and had to pull out all resources to deal with the misinformation, disinformation, and infodemic as well as lack of compliance among communities to precautionary measures and messages. Learning from the experience of countries which managed to create, execute, and succeed in their health promotion and health education plans during the COVID-19 crisis is mandatory. Risk communication was one of the main challenges faced by countries and by institutions to deal with the crisis. An in-depth examination of the educational and risk communication theories underpinning health promotion strategies and interventions within proper cultural context is a highly important step to be learned to deal with any future health-related crisis.

This special issue focuses on the health promotion and health education programs and experiences during the COVID-19 crisis research and case studies papers focusing on new and innovative approaches to community education, community engagement and participation and health promotion programs as well as case studies and experiences of different countries, organizations and entities in COVID-19 related health promotion programs, interventions and evaluation are welcome. Other accepted manuscript types include program planning, intervention mapping, theoretical and methodological papers, brief reports, perspectives and commentaries.

COVID-19, health promotion plans, health promotion models, community awareness, public health, planning, intervention mapping, health program evaluation
